Banff Mountain Film Festival

Banff Mountain Film Festival

For the past 16 years, the Cape Union Mart has presented South African adventurists and film enthusiasts with one of the largest mountain festivals in the world, the Banff Mountain Film Festival.

The festival is an annual film competition that attracts some of the world’s best filmmakers and most accomplished wilderness sportspeople. The aim of the festival is to celebrate the spirit of adventure, to nurture a respect for our environment, and to honour mountain culture through film.

The best films are screened at the Banff Mountain Festival World Tour, which stops in 285 communities and 35 countries around the world. The selected films are screened at Ster Kinekor cinemas across major South African cities, such as Johannesburg, Pretoria, Cape Town, Durban and Port Elizabeth. The films are shown in local cinemas from early to mid-November, while tickets can be purchased beforehand via the Ster Kinekor website from early October.

Cape Union Mart’s Friends and Family Community Members are given free access to the BANFF Centre Mountain Film Festival virtual screening where they can view the films from the comfort of their own homes.
