Story Weaver Historical Walking Tours

Ailsa Tudhope, also known as The Story Weaver, is an entertaining guide and storyteller who loves to share the stories and heritage of Prince Albert. She leads fun and informative walking tours around Prince Albert, one of which is the increasingly popular Ghost Walk. During this tour, those brave enough will explore the streets of Prince Albert in the company of well-known ghosts, whose possible origins are told by Ailsa.

Ailsa is a registered tour guide and a member of the Cape Tour Guide Association. She has been leading the Ghost Walk for almost 20 years and invites guests who are six years and older to join her in the pre-dinner walk.

Guests set out at dusk, and Ailsa presents stories introducing them to characters who have lived in the town in the past, and their ghosts. As darkness settles they will see a “one-woman-show” on the move that reveals the village's treasures and hidden skeletons of the past. The walks take an hour and a half, and children must be accompanied by an adult.

Other walking tours led by Ailsa include the Historical Ramble. The first settlers arrived in Prince Albert in 1762 and established a farm named Kweekvallei. In the Historical Ramble, Ailsa introduces participants to the de Beers and other families that helped make the town what it is today.

The walk visits past historical buildings that are almost two hundred years old to observe the architecture and hear about its owners and builders. The towns beautiful gardens and orchards are visited, as well as the British garrison camp from the Anglo-Boer War for a brief history lesson.
