The Drive-in at the Galileo Cinema

The Galileo Drive-in movie nights started as a way to ensure patrons of the Galileo Open Air Cinema could enjoy a movie night under the stars in the new reality of the Covid-19 pandemic and the imposed lockdown restrictions.

It has since become a popular and permanent feature that happens every Friday night. The Drive-in is hosted in venues alternating between the Vredenhof Sports Field at Groote Schuur High School in Rondebosch and the Cape Academy of Maths, Science and Technology in Constantia.

By reversing cars into designated bays and setting up a 'cuddle-pad' with pillows and blankets in the boot, patrons can enjoy a nostalgic night out. The movie line up in this slot is designed with the whole family in mind with titles such as Moana, The Lion King and Alladin having featured before.

Tickets and all movie night snacks can be pre-booked online or picked up at the gate. No hot foods can be purchased on location.
