The European Film Festival in SA premiered in South African movie theatres in 2014, exhibiting a spectrum of films from various European Union (EU) countries.
The festival is a partnership project of the Delegation of the European Union to South Africa and twelve other European embassies and cultural agencies within South Africa, including the Embassies of Austria, Ireland, Lithuania, the French Institute in South Africa, the Goethe-Institut, the Italian Cultural Institute, and the British Council, among others. The festival is organised in collaboration with CineEuropa and is coordinated by Creative WorkZone, an arts management, training, and events company that provides various services in the creative and cultural industries.
The festival was previously held at Cinema Nouveau theatres in various cities across South Africa, however, due to the ongoing pandemic, the seventh edition of the festival was held as a virtual event in November 2020.
The seventh edition of the festival featured twelve films from twelve different EU countries that made their debut on the big screen in South Africa. Film enthusiasts are urged to keep an eye out on their social platforms and website where announcements will be made of future events and 2021 festival dates and venues.
