The Labia Theatre Garden Terrace

The Labia Theatre is the oldest independent art-repertory cinema in South Africa, best known for its screenings of best of circuit, documentaries, classics, independent and art films.

The Labia consists of four movie theatres, all varying in size, with the biggest seating 176 people and the smallest a more intimate space seating 50 people. It has a coffee bar that sells home-made delicacies and snacks, a garden terrace and a fully licensed bar.

The Labia is available for private screenings accommodating private parties and corporate events. Management offers a 'design your event' service, helping to customise experiences with the four theatres that are available.

Originally an Italian Embassy ballroom, it was opened by Princess Labia in May 1949 as a theatre for the performing arts. For 29 years, it operated as a cinema on the alternative circuit appealing mainly to the more discerning viewer who enjoys its quality product and the charm of its old-world ambience.
