Motouleng Cave Tour

Motouleng Cave Tour

The cultural tour of Motoulong Caves, also known as the Fertility Caves, takes guests into the sacred site that is home to many traditional healers to view the rituals taking place, learn of the cave’s history, and view the clay and stone huts surrounding it.

Healers and sangomas live within the caves for weeks, months or even years at a time as the caves serve as a sanctuary and holy ground for prayer, performing rituals, and even as a way to boost fertility for women wanting to get pregnant. Guests can observe a fountain at the beginning of the cave where they can toss a coin for good luck, or see the river flowing from the valley that is an integral part of many rituals. There are many historic sites to see in the cave, such as ancient rock paintings as well as footprints that may have belonged to prehistoric creatures such as dinosaurs.

The tour is a half-day tour that requires a minimum of four people to commence. The cave is a sacred site, therefore appropriate respectful clothing is advised.
